The fastest — and often most fun — way to update your wardrobe for any season is with accessories.
And this fall is no exception.
The season’s runways were full of adornments that would fit into virtually any day-to-day wardrobe — from leather carryalls to sleek, shoulder-grazing earrings. But the collections were also punctuated with standout pieces that will elevate even the most simple of looks.
Safe to say, it’s a good season to be a big-time accessories fan.
THE TREND: TWINKLE TOES
You don’t have to be an avid wearer of bling to embrace this trend — but, of course, it would help if you were. When editors and street-style stars spotted the crystal-encrusted boots from Saint Laurent’s new creative director Anthony Vaccarello, they quickly declared that bling was again a “thing.” But while most of us won’t be splashing out on five-figure boots (yes, five figures) that doesn’t mean we can’t all sparkle and shine. Whether you opt for an all-over glitter approach, or decide to don something a little less ostentatious, this season is all about finding a little something that glitters.

THE TREND: EYE-CATCHING EARRINGS
For several seasons, we’ve been seeing other jewelry items stealing the show — necklaces, rings and hairpieces — to name a few. But, while all the aforementioned items are still in style, this season’s most en vogue jewelry items is a set of eye-catching earrings. From bold, oversized studs, to geometric shapes and to-the-should danglers, this fall’s ear adornments are practically made for the type of weather ahead. You know, those wet, cloudy days that all-but force us to pull back our hair into no-muss-no-fuss low buns and ponytails.

THE TREND: TOP-HANDLE TAGALONGS
No matter the size, this season’s hottest handbags feature clean lines, structured silhouettes and one or two handles on top. While you’ll likely still find a slew of totes and carryalls being carried around this season as well, true fashionistas will be toting these top-handle delights. The retro-inspired style looks chic with virtually any ensemble and transitions well from day to night.

THE TREND: HOT FUZZ
From fur trim to shearling detailing, some of season’s hottest accessories are all about embracing the furrier side of life. What’s the best way to wear it in the real world? We love the idea of opting for cruelty-free iterations that boast all the glamour of their real counterparts. From swaths of fuzz featured on (or even in!) shoes, to peeks of pet-worthy fleece lining the inside of a handbag, cuddle-worthy outfit additions are sure to be spotted everywhere this autumn.

THE TREND: EXTRAVAGANT EMBELLISHMENTS
The next trend to take note of is one that doesn’t have to be relegated to one accessory type or another. In fact, it’s a style marker that works well on virtually any piece — from bags, to shoes and even belts. So, which trend are we talking about? Embellishments. From pretty pearl details to heavy-metal grommets, it’s easy to mix metals and materials this time around thanks to a plethora of pieces that boast exterior elements that are worthy of a second (OK, and maybe even third) look.

THE TREND: HEAVY METAL
There’s a heavy metal movement happening in fashion — and we’re not talking about music. The movement toward statement pieces sporting some seriously glinting tones of silver, gold, rose gold and more is still going strong. And, this season, the pieces are even more awe-inspiring and architectural than anything we’ve seen in the past.
