The Kilpauk police are inquiring into the “theft” of gold bars weighing 8.5 kg from a jewellery manufacturing unit.
The complainant, Ukkam Raj, 44, of Rajarathinam Street, is running a jewellery manufacturing unit where 100 workers are employed. A few days ago, he had handed over gold ingots to G. Rajesh, a worker, to make jewellery based on a design provided by a customer.
On Sunday, after verifying the stock, Mr. Raj noticed a shortage of 8.5 kg. Lodging a police complaint, he said he suspected Rajesh and a few others who were working with him.
Based on the complaint, Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Rajendran formed a special team to crack the case. Further investigation is on.
